§ 4.04. Vacancy of the office of mayor.

  • (a)

    In the event that the mayor dies, resigns, becomes permanently disabled, ceases to be qualified or is removed from office, as provided by law, the vice mayor shall become interim mayor with full powers and duties of mayor as provided by this Charter or other law. If six months or more remain in the current term of the mayor, the council shall call a special election to fill the office for the unexpired portion of the term, and such election shall be held and completed within 90 days of the occurrence of the vacancy.

    (b)

    Forfeiture of office. The mayor shall forfeit his/her office if he/she:

    (1)

    Lacks at any time during his/her term of office any qualifications for the office prescribed by law; or

    (2)

    Violates any standard of conduct or code of ethics established by law for public officials, such violations to be determined by the city council.
